What The Fuck!

colinpizzano:

I’m so sick of hearing about your bands that fucking break up every other day and have six reunion shows. This is a fucking joke! Why do you get so pissed when no one takes you seriously? What do you expect? I’m just done hearing about it.

Had to do a last second tweak, but the line-up is still looking great! We’ll now be having a Midwest Pen Pal reunion at the Prawn show it seems. Our amazing Ann Arbor neighbors Brave Bird and Pity Sex will be playing some smooth jams alongside. It will also be our last show at Turtle Den, so be sure to help us go out with a bang. We love you, Grand Rapids.Event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=209040009130192PS: Someone give Casey a ride from Jackson, MI! He’s a cool dude.

meeting sam rudich

i don’t have the heart to write out anything lengthy right now, i’m sorry.

cabana house the other night was awesome, it’s one of the most surreal things to feel so many kids sweating behind me screaming and singing along, really. it’s one of the most flattering and emotional things to think that you guys care enough about us to cram into a gross house and throw down to whatever it is we’re trying to do. it’s beyond us, it’s beyond me, but thank you.

to mason: i’m sorry about your shirt. i really hope that blood came out.

to our grand haven friends: i love you, we love you. thank you so much for driving down here and hanging out, i hope you had a good time.

to courtney turner: you are our favorite bro, i’m sorry i forgot you the last post. chipotle next time, okay?

to leaving songs: hurry up and write new jams, hurry up and record more. don’t sweat moose coop or anything else, anytime we hang out is a blast. it doesn’t matter where it’s at, you’re our best fucking friends and that’s all that matters. seriously, you guys deserve more cred than i think you’re getting, you don’t see that much energy in a band nowadays and it’s awesome, don’t stop.

to willower: i’m glad you guys are doing this. kiddie curfews, tape releases, whatever. we’re all friends, and i hope you don’t think otherwise if i talk out of my ass sometimes.

it is of note that we got to hang out with hightide hotel for two days. much like with ape up, it is the coolest feeling in the world to meet someone from the other side of the country and hang out so easily. i’ve always been a huge fan of their music, but to now be able to call them our friends is wylde. for real, some of the nicest dudes in the world, we wish them the best of luck in anything they do. i’m almost positive we’re doing some kind of tape split in the spring, and they’re putting out a full length this fall. be stoked as fuck on those things, i know i am.

to sam rudich: we’re glad we got to meet you, man of snowing/ape up fame. it was like meeting a movie star or something. maybe we can have cookies and fun at your house next summer?

so…yeah. that’s it i guess. we played at moose coop on tuesday, it was pretty ridiculous. i’m not going to explain the story, but i checked our messages tonight and found this. i guess it’s a response to a message i wrote them that politely explained how rude they are and how we’re not going to play there again. anyways, their response represents that entire scene of good ol’ boys.

“gave you guys a few chances to defend your dumbass message, you didn’t thats why your pussies. and i’m bored so i’ll write a long one.

you didn’t like the moosecoop cause people there were “bros” well i think you need to broaden your horizons and try playing for people other than your friends. Music is a beautiful thing and not all music lovers need to dress act and idolize your style or fashion.

and sorry if we couldn’t get as many people you wanted, we don’t determine who or how many people show up. they’ve never heard of you and the only well knownish band was young mosaics which already had their big “last show”. Plus it’s not some cramped room its a big open space which makes it seem like a smaller crowd in my opinion. and when i play music i like to think that if one person came to see me, then that is worth it cause one kid is just as valuable as the next. I want to play for the people who came for the show not the ones that didn’t.

don’t call over tehran a shitty ass band. They rarely play shows, their music isn’t as simple as yours and their songs are definitely bigger and better than your equipment.

And you know there’s some people who don’t take subtle insults lightly. Casey is one of them. Calling him a browarrior, was like calling him a bro, who are people you guys obviously don’t like. We aren’t dumbasses, we don’t wanna hear your childish explanations for calling someone a browarrior. What the fuck is that anyway? If you have a problem with someone say it loud or don’t say it at all.

our problem with you is that you are fucking disrespectful and think that you are better than us. don’t call us fatasses or rednecks if you don’t want to hear anything back. don’t send us insulting messages thinking you can tell us not to reply. It’s not your place to do these things your just some mediocre band from up north just like the rest of ‘em!

now you can block this page too pussies, which is what i think your band as a whole is at the moment.”

…lol.

July 27, 2009

what a good f word weekend.

so this past weekend we lurked up north in the muskegon and grand haven. so many wylde things happened, lemme recap some stuff:

we set aside three days to finish recording four songs for our EP, and we ended up not finishing (or really ACTUALLY doing anything) until the very last night, wrapping up all the vocals at like, one in the morning and then proceeding to burn twenty five copies, go to Wal-Mart and get spray paint and card stock, fold said cardstock, and the point is etc. nick, emmabean, and i didn’t clock out until around seven thirty…

only to wake up friday morning at twelve to go practice at garret’s, sweaty and nasty. in typical us fashion, we didn’t actually get to garret’s until two, but it is the thought that counts.

after running through our songs and practicing our synchronized posi jumps, we loaded up, went to my house, showered, put the cd’s together, rolled and taped our vnecks that thankfully came in (THANKS OWLZ KEVIN/BIRDMAN), and left totally prepared two hours later than we planned on.

driving and driving, we went a couple exits too far in muskegon and missed our total BROS in mickey lane and our actual bros in thieves. to add to the bummer, i had the worst little ceasers experience of my life, with horrible smelling garlic butter shit spilling all over my shirt and the pizza itself just tasting like ass. i bought rolaids (not soft chews, more bummer) and we went back and explored the bingo hall.

talk about scene kid fest, the median age was probably 15 (like mwpp, amirite?) and pretty much everyone was there just to strut their shit and look cool with manicured hair. regardless, we tried talking to shawties and having a good time. we managed to get a few people to watch us, which was cool, but jacob scooter is the fucking man and so we had fun no matter what.

afterwards went to grand haven to stay at our best friend luke’s house, where we discussed weed, fashion hats, ciggarette rolling, and i scored some excellent local pizza at a place called mario’s. little ceasers sucked, so i made up for it at two in the morning with twelve inches of greasy ass veggie pizza and there was nothing better. the night ended with a diy/punk as fuck campfire and me passing out on a too small couch. apparently i also talked about wylde stuff in my sleep, i guess that is of note.

saturday i woke up totally rejuvinated to a room a full of sleeping dudes. i’m usually the last person to fall asleep, but this weekend i was the first, whatever, my bandmates and our new friends probably stayed up three more hours than me and  i sort of just lurked while everyone snoozed away the morning. at some point APE UP! called me and informed me they were at the state park/beach, and everyone woke up and we went there. before we left, we all washed our clothes so our jeans and cut offs could be tighter for the show. =p

i guess i’ll take this time to just lamely talk about how nice grand haven is: grand haven is really nice. walking around with mac and luke was honestly a highlight of the whole week/weekend, it was totally beautiful. somehow we found the APE UP! dudes basking in the sun (what punk band enjoys the beach?) and we shook hands and made introductions. instead of walking back twenty minutes to peter jennings the van, we all (seven of us) crammed into the APE UP! van with its four members and drove to peter.

with a plan in hand, pals and crew loaded into said jennings and while backing out i hit a car. people lol’d and then we made haste out of there, back to luke’s. we discovered at the laundry mat that all of our clothes took on a strong smell of garlic butter (from my shirt) and it was awkward, so we had to rewash them. we all walked to a place called the rendezvous and i had bosco sticks and french toast. i’m a child.

showering, finally getting the clothes situation worked out, we made it to the actual show. the first…three hours? were real intense and we watched all the local bands. then APE UP! dominated shit, and then we played okay. from crooked teeth played last, and it being their very last show, it was pretty emotional and things got, uh, “rowdy, fast”. it was weird seeing a band break up, especially one i’ve never seen before. it was very apparent that they meant something to all the kids throwing down, screaming along with luke, and i think that’s really cool, really. whenever a band, be it metal/punk/emo/country/whatever, has the ability to bring in people that actually give a fuck, i think it’s incredible.

cheesyness aside, we went to taco bell afterwards and nick and i ate way too much food and discussed starting a band with nick (APE UP! drummer / the drummer who did all of algernon’s recordings minus hot green) and maybe danny (from..make me/boy problems) and a split that’s going to happen this winter. i’ll keep my fan boy comments to a minimum, but to put a vinyl split or maybe be in a band with some of the dudes that have influenced, you know, everything around here, is totally surreal. we took mac home and met his new asian brother, kim tongue or something, and we took pictures. we drove back to luke’s and took more pictures, this time with APE UP!, hung out for a little bit. on the way out of town we got pulled over, becasue i was swerving or something while trying to figure out the gps situation and the michigan turn around things. cop BRO was pretty chill, but told me my license was suspended in michigan and any other cop would probably give me a fine/send me to jail. it was good.

driving home, i had to ride shotgun, which was a new experience. mike drove us, and at some point i pee’d into a Styrofoam  cup that exploded everywhere as i threw it out the window. it got all over garret and we all were just screaming. it was nuts. nick’s house showed up at like five in the morning and we all crashed.

to finish this up, i want to personally thank some people, it’s needed. mike mellen, firstly, for recording our asses for free, throwing down sick bass lines on those recordings, and then filling in  this weekend. seriously, such a dude. then emmahbean, who is the sweetest and nicest girl i’ve ever met. thank you for making us lasagna and stencils and our cds, you rule. then mac and luke, for being two of the most legit kids i’ve ever had the pleasure of hanging out with,  thanks for showing us a good time and giving us a place to stay. then with them, thanks to all the people we met in grand haven, to everyone that bought a shirt or cd or just stood there and watched us. then of course jacob scooter, for the show in muskegon. who cares if that shit was a partial bummer, we hung out with you and had fun. lastly, i think, we have to thank matt, billy, rawlin lil fag, and nick in APE UP!. such nice guys, such rad jams. it was awesome meeting them and hanging out, i really hope that split up there goes down.

and…i think that’s it. i’m out of stuff to say. keep in touch, as usual, we’ll be hanging out until next summer, then we’re selling out and world touring.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

before midwest pen pals, garret was in another band called oh! darling. he would send his songs to nick and i and we would say “hey, that’s cool dude!”.

anyways, one day he was like “i’m trying to write a group vocal for the beginning of a song” and nick and i asked “how does it go?”

for some reason, and it’s beyond me why, he sent us this.

please enjoy it.

toar

it’s been one week since we played our first show and the future couldn’t look any brighter. this past weekend we hung out with our best friends leaving songs, it was honestly the only real way to spend our first week of “playing” and i’m bummed we couldn’t have made it a real tour.

the first night we played in columbus, indiana to a group of cargo short bros and the band cinnamon telegram. nick played with full distortion (an east coast no no) and the show was held at a park. kids sat on picnic tables and complained when i asked them to actually stand infront of us. leaving songs tore it up, as did trent’s other band; <3s to hand hugs. there were quite a few shawtyz, but none of them were feeling the NWI vibe, so we ate yee kee (def. not the nom noms) where we met a rad british girl and hung out with kent, her equally rad boyfran. after getting more polar pops and junk food we drove home at like 12.

the next day we gorged on cici’s with LS, who drove back up, then we drove to sturgis. i caught kyle posi jumping and it ruled. all of our sweet sturgis friends came and so did our ever loyal south bend friends, it was awesome. there is no cooler feeling than kids knowing your words. word. after the show we ate lots and lots of taco bell, outside, and almost got shot up by some mexican gangsters becasue i flipped them off. in my defense, they called us “emo fags”, and i hate getting my big ass associated with those skinny losers. anyways, avoided death and made up hand shakes until we retired to nick’s casa. somewhere in the middle of the night we antiqued trent real intense and got his eye real crazy swollen with flour. rage.

saturday we played basketball, watched blink 182 videos, and made voyage to grand rapids. we met mac and luke for the first time, thank god, and their cool friends travis and jake. i guess we met arynnc, but she bailed to go hang out with some dude. LAME. we ate brickroad pizza and proceeded to go to fuller house. there was no mic there, which was awkward, and some guy blew fire in the front yard. after sweating like crazy and watching ghetto fireworks arguments we left and got more brickroad pizza. i solo’d a 16” (minus a piece or two i owed to grandpa) and we drove home with deep talks about not failing at life.

sunday was a bummer, everyone parted ways. kyle and i owned some tacos and later some chinese food, i saw the movie bruno (which sucked) and life went back to normal.

thanks to: DJOZ (who isn’t really dusty), sarah (the bro shawty), andrew/fuller house, nick’s mom, my dad, peter jennings, and the reptilian.

all in all, it was an excellent toar, and we’re very excited to go on a real one. as summer finishes up and fall approaches, we’re hoping to record a cd and make more merch for everyone. we want to meet lots of people and do as much as we can until we’re able to make it outside of the midwest and meet even more people and do even more cool stuff.

in the coming weeks, we’re with playing Hightide Hotel and APE UP, and, to be real, i’m not excited for much else.
